Let's Get Sugared

Looking for a hair removal service that treats you like the queen you are? Well, let’s get you sugared!

It’s rumored that Cleopatra herself would get sugared. But..what exactly is sugaring? Why should you book a sugaring appointment vs a waxing appointment? Does it cause ingrowns? Is sugaring expensive? There might be more questions you’re waiting to get answered, so scroll down to learn more about this amazing hair removal technique.

Sugaring has been used for centuries in ancient Egypt and the Middle East. To Persian women, a hairless body was the exemplar of beauty and youth. This is where they came up with the idea of using a sugar paste; made of sugar, lemon juice and water. Yes, that’s it- three ingredients. These women would apply the paste against the hair growth and with a quick flick pull the paste in the same direction as the hair growth. The sugar seeps into the pores and adheres to individual hairs, pulling them directly from the root. Sugaring is considered to be the most effective and natural way of removing body hair.

So, why sugaring and not waxing? Sugaring is less uncomfortable and more gentle on the skin. Sugaring is a warm (not hot) sugar lemon mixture paste that has no additives. And no cloth strips are required! Although some waxes are natural, there are many that use essential oils and chemicals that can irritate already sensitive skin. Another difference is that waxing is applied with the hair growth and pulled away from it. Pulling against the hair growth can cause breakage of the follicle which is the main cause of ingrowns and folliculitis afterwards.

With sugaring, the hair is pulled out with the natural growth of the hair, which in turn helps with avoiding ingrowns. A great thing about sugaring is that it will minimize hair growth, the growth rate of the hair increases, and the hair looks and feels finer after keeping up with sugaring. If you are someone with sensitive skin or are simply looking for a natural hair removal alternative, sugaring is for you.

At Bronzed Denver, we care about giving you a pleasant sugaring experience. We offer drinks, fidget spinners, stress balls, an eye pillow with essential oils, and Netflix to help ease your nerves and keep you relaxed. Our estheticians will have you undress and get settled down, cleanse your skin, use our special toner to reduce any oil or sweat production, and finally powder you down to create a barrier between your skin and the sugar paste. During the sugaring procedure, your esthetician will ask about any personal hair preferences. Before the service is complete, your esthetician will apply an antiseptic to help cool and calm the inflamed skin. This will also help decrease the chance of ingrown hairs as well.

Before your sugaring appointment, make sure your hair is at least the size of a grain of rice or about ⅛ inch to ¼ inch long. You will also need to do any type of exfoliating or trimming 24 hours prior to the appointment. We can’t assure you will have a painless experience as everybody’s pain tolerance varies, but with that being said, we recommend taking ibuprofen an hour before the appointment or adding our numbing prep to your appointment. Sugaring prices range between $20 to $100 depending on how large of an area we are sugaring.
